Painting has always been an essential part of who I am. As far back as I can remember I have been fascinated and inspired by the forms and colors of nature. I work from the conventional observation of a place but my landscapes are definitely reinvented realities. Both the abstract works and the landscapes explore the drama between the light and dark of the outside world and that within.
"He creates his paintings using a variety of classical techniques. His works on canvas are executed mainly in oil while his works on paper rely on a quicker drying acrylic paint. The colors are blended extensively throughout, with each piece being worked through a series of semi-transparent applications. Instinct dictates the number of applications that are applied to each piece. Although his landscapes can be related to real spaces, a marked degree of imagination is required to adapt the image to suit the vision. Color selection and tonal values often play an important part in transferring the scene to the canvas. The overall effect is a wonderful contemporary composition that is executed with all the care and detail of an old world painting."
"Sometimes I long so much to do landscape, just as one would for a long walk to refresh oneself, and in all of nature, in trees for instance, I see expression and a soul, as it were." Vincent Van Gogh
To his brother Theo from The Hague, 10 December 1882.
